Letter To The Editor: An open letter to Senators Barrasso and Lummis

Thanks for nothing! Thanks for voting to confirm U.S. Attorney Darin Smith for Wyoming. Just because Trump likes him does not mean that he is good for Wyoming. You all voted to confirm him four days after Wyoming’s three federal judges ruled that he had committed flagrant misconduct, resulting in nine federal cases being dismissed without prejudice, one of them a first degree murder.

Since August when Darin Smith has been acting as interim U.S. Attorney for Wyoming, five attorneys have left or are leaving the office. That in and of itself should have been a big reg flag that all is not well under Smith’s leadership. We need leaders in the Senate and Congress who will really look out for what is best for us back in Wyoming, and not rubber stamp what Trump is asking for.

We need senators and a representative who will curb the needless spending by Trump on a foreign war no one wanted and on a ballroom and an arch. He claims there is not enough money for subsidizing health insurance or childcare since we are waging a war, but he can undertake expensive construction projects without voter support.

Please remember when you vote August 18, 2026, that we need someone to represent us, and not Trump.
